Beth Huizenga

Announcer/Operator

Beth Huizenga was born in Hammond, Indiana, and graduated from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI in 1984. She began working in radio at WZND in Zeeland and then WGRD in Grand Rapids, MI before moving to New York City to pursue an acting career in 1986. While working in summer-stock theatre in 1988, she was lured back into radio at WHJY in Providence as "Beth Holland." After two years of hard rock, Beth had enough of that and moved to Bangkok, Thailand, to be a radio announcer and DJ in English on two Thai-owned stations.

After three years of adventures living in Asia, Beth returned to the U.S., scored a job at KFOG, and moved west of the Mississippi for the first time in her life in 1994. During her years at KFOG, Beth met her husband Rich Murillo and gave birth to two daughters. Beth has been a fan of KQED since Ray Suarez was the host of "Talk of the Nation" and has worked as an on-call announcer/operator since 2000. She keeps a mat in master control and anticipates becoming a certified yoga teacher in 2007.
