Upon release, they face a life that has rapidly advanced. To succeed, they must make positive daily decisions and secure gainful employment despite having a felony record. Old temptations often lure them back, offering quick, easy money. Prison recidivism is one of the most daunting challenges in the United States. Of the 650,000 individuals released annually, 82 percent are re-incarcerated within a decade, with 43 percent returning within the first year. In South Carolina, the non-profit Turn 90 offers a groundbreaking re-entry program designed for violent offenders. It provides a supportive path that works to break the cycle of re-incarceration. TURNING POINT is a compelling, hour-long documentary that explores this innovative approach to helping men succeed after they complete their time in prison. Through intimate profiles of current participants and successful graduates, the film delves into the transformative journey of the formerly incarcerated as they navigate the challenges and triumphs of reintegration.

In this episode, Earl Bridges and Craig Martin meet two such heroes in the eastern part of Uganda. Their journey to find them begins in a Matatu that takes them through the Ugandan countryside to a series of geographic gems like the "source of the Nile". But after a long journey they arrive at their true destination- the Mbale Regional Referral Hospital. Once there, they meet up with an amazing couple, Kathy Bourgoine and Adam Hewitt-Smith, and their daughters Eseld and Lowenna. Despite the fact that Kathy (a neonatologist) and Adam (an anesthesiologist) could be crushing it back in London, UK where they are from, they have decided to live and work in this remote city of Uganda not making a dime from their labors. And contrary to what you might think, they're not doing it for Jesus. They're both self-avowed atheists who are simply doing it for the people whose lives they change. They are do-gooders because doing good is the right thing to do. Kathy's work in the NICU and Adam's work in the hospital is saving lives, but the work is hard and stressful and takes its toll on their children. Earl and Craig explore Kathy and Adam's inspiring and at times heartbreaking world and discover all kinds of bizarre, funny, and interesting Ugandan cultural details along the way.

Over the centuries, different ethnic groups and religions created a melting pot of cultures and traditions. This was an area historically co-inhabited by Belarusians, Tatars, Lithuanians, Russians, Ukrainians, Macedonians, Germans and Jews and, of course, the Poles. Out of the rich and diverse history of this region grew a perfect cuisine that combines simplicity, diversity and rich flavor. As the cuisines of many ethnicities of the area intermixed over time, they left Podlasie with a unique menu that differs from most others in Poland. We'll explore the unique elements and tastes of Podlasie with Aleksandra as she tours the city center of Bialystok, venture beyond the city with a visit to Łomza, a city over 1000 years old, and finishes her tour with a trip into the region's countryside to learn about the traditions that stem out of the region's folk culture. There, she'll visit an agritourism farm in Hamulka where, together with local experts, she'll bake one of the region's traditional cakes - S

Swathed in a forest stretching 50000 square miles and once ruled by the mighty Maya Civilization. But it's also place full of secrets which hold the key to how animals and people survive the long and difficult times. This is where we begin our journey through the seasons. A young morelet crocodile searches for prey in one of only a few places left with water. Thirst even lures the most elusive forest creature -- the Jaguar. Above in the canopy, spider monkeys are on the search for food, and there's no better place to find it than at the spectacular Maya temple of Calakmul. Meanwhile Don Roque, a Mayan descendent, reveals the key to the success of his ancient ancestors is all down to the peninsula's unique geology. There are over 8000 cenotes, or natural wells, across this porous limestone peninsula. The cenote in Don Roque's back garden isn't just a vital water source; it's also a haven for wildlife. Nesting cave swallows and turquoise-browed motmots line the cave walls. Some dry caves have become home to a swarms of bats, emerging from the underworld in their millions. But this underground water isn't enough to sustain life all year round. The Yucatan Peninsula relies on powerful weather systems that develop thousands of miles away in the Atlantic Ocean. As the seasons change, we witness how the vital rains affect all life on the Peninsula.

Damaging surgery and unsophisticated radiotherapy were the main treatments, assuming the disease was detected in time for anything to be done. Cervical cancer was often asymptomatic until it was well advanced, and by that time, it was often a death sentence. This dramatic story of the fight against cervical cancer revolves around three main characters: Dr. Papanicolaou, a Greek immigrant whose single-minded pursuit of the development of a diagnostic test saved hundreds of thousands of women; Hashime Murayama, the exquisitely talented artist who became National Geographic's first inhouse illustrator, but because of his Japanese heritage, was fired, interned in a WWII camp, then released to work on the project; and Helen Dickens, a groundbreaking Black female surgeon, who overcame deep distrust between the Black community and medical professionals to save the lives of thousands of women. The work of these three true life savers slashed death rates of this previously unfightable cancer by more than 60 percent.
