Between “What’Chu Like” and “In Love Wit Chu,” Chicago rapper Da Brat made some of the sexiest grind-on-your-boo hits of the late ’90s and early 2000s. Not to mention she laid down fire verses on tracks by some of the biggest female stars of that era, including Mariah Carey (“Heartbreaker (Remix)”), Missy Elliott (“Sock It 2 Me”) and Lil’ Kim (“Not Tonight (Ladies Night Remix)”).

For decades, Da Brat kept her sexuality under wraps. Now out and proud (and raising a baby boy with her wife, Jesseca “Judy” Harris-Dupart), the rap icon will touch down in Oakland to headline the main stage of Oakland Pride on Sept. 8.

The theme of this year’s celebration is “Rooted in Pride.” After a parade at 11 a.m., the outdoor party continues from noon–6 p.m. with music and performances on three stages, including a Latin Stage and a Community Stage.

Headlining the Latin stage is Mexican singer, YouTuber and reality TV personality Wendy Guevara, whose sound is a high-energy blend of pop, EDM and reggaeton. The rest of the Oakland Pride lineup will soon be announced.

Oakland Pride takes place Sunday, Sept. 8, from 11 a.m.–6 p.m. on 20th Street and Broadway in downtown Oakland. Adult tickets are $15, with discounts for youth and seniors. Tickets and details here.
