In November, KQED Education partnered with YBCA to host Calling Youth to Power, it’s first youth convening associated with the annual YBCA 100 Summit. The event created a safe space for Bay Area youth to discuss local issues and brainstorm ways to take action in their communities.
YBCA 100 honoree, Jamarrria Hall, who was one of five Detroit students to file a lawsuit against their school district for failing to properly educate students, sparked discussion about how take action on local issues. Youth leaders then led a town-hall style discussion about power and community activism.
22×20 Youth Fellow, Sophia Aeby, and KQED Youth Advisory Board member, Edward Huang, filmed the event and spoke with youth participants about their role as community changemakers.
Sophia Aeby is a junior at Convent of the Sacred Heart High School in San Francisco, and Edward Huang is sophomore at San Mateo High School.
