Officers for two of the Bay Area's largest police departments have been ordered not to patrol alone Friday out of safety concerns stemming from the shootings that killed five police officers in Dallas and injured seven others.
San Jose Police Chief Eddie Garcia ordered officers into two-officer patrols Friday morning, according to a statement issued by the Police Department.
"The San Jose Police Department is mourning the senseless violence that took the lives of our law enforcement family members in Dallas yesterday evening," said Officer Albert Morales, an SJPD spokesman. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by this tragedy."
Despite the changes, the department is not bringing in more officers on Friday, Morales said.
It's standard practice for San Francisco police to use two-officer patrol units and that will not change Friday, according to department spokesman Officer Giselle Talkoff.
