$4.5 Billion Could Have Trimmed a Lot of Trees

A federal judge scolded PG&E at a probation hearing on Tuesday, saying, “A lot of money went to dividends that should’ve gone to your trees.”

Judge William Alsup said the utility paid out $4.5 billion in stock dividends instead of trimming trees.

I sure wouldn’t want to be a PG&E lawyer appearing before Judge Alsup, who seems to have a knack for distilling the company’s safety record down to particularly stark terms.
