Amid high winds and extreme fire danger, PG&E shut off power to over 1 million people in Northern California.

Let’s hope these shutoffs prevent the utility’s neglected, outdated and tree-adjacent equipment from starting any more deadly fires.

Even though it is an inconvenience and the underlying causes are maddening, there are a lot of positive things that can happen when we are without electricity.
