Bay Area Voters: Here's When You Can Expect Updated Election Results

After voting, the next thing everyone wants to know is who won. In most of California, vote counting is slow — very slow. It’s not uncommon to wait days for a definitive election result, especially in a close race.

If you want an unambiguously final result, you’ll wait much longer — Dec. 5, the deadline for county registrars to officially certify results, or Dec. 13, the date the California Secretary of State’s office must certify statewide results.

We can’t speed up the process, but we can give you an idea of when you might expect the coming rounds of results from Bay Area counties.

Here’s a quick rundown of the most recent county vote reports and when counties say (or don’t say) voters can expect the next round of results:

Alameda County. Last report: 1:03 a.m. Wednesday, with 233,446 votes counted (24.3% of the county’s 960,649 registered voters). Next reports: 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, and 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8.

Contra Costa County. Last report: 1:09 a.m. Wednesday, with 352,382 votes counted (48.8% of the county’s 722,861 registered voters). Next report: 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8

Marin County. Last report: 10:48 p.m. Tuesday, with 85,083 votes counted (49.4% of the county’s 172,304 registered voters). Next report: By 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8.

Napa County. Last report: 12:35 a.m. Wednesday, with 26,160 votes counted (30.5% of the county’s 85,150 registered voters). Next report: Late afternoon, Friday, Nov. 8.

San Francisco County. Last report: 12:29 a.m. Wednesday, with 234,453 votes counted (44.9% of the county’s 522,265 registered voters). Next report: 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7.

San Mateo County. Last report: 2:10 a.m. Wednesday, with 213,421 votes counted (48.1% of the county’s 443,164 registered voters). Next reports: 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, and 4:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8.

Santa Clara County. Last report: 4:46 p.m. Wednesday, with 468,395 votes counted (44.7% of the county’s 1,048,723 registered voters). Next report: By 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7.

Solano County. Last report: 5:05 p.m. Wednesday, with 156,220 votes counted (56.5% of the county’s 269,510 registered voters). Next report: 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7.

Sonoma County. Last report: 1:47 a.m. Wednesday, with 154,276 votes counted (49.8% of the county’s 309,933 registered voters). Next report: 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, then 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12.
