Our redesigned building is about engaging with the community, for the community. Being truly diverse and inclusive is tied to everything we do: the content we provide, the stories we share and the staff we hire, but also to inviting the community to be part of our work. Our reimagined home will be an open and accessible place to gather and be together so that individuals can connect with our journalists, our stories and each other.

For more than 60 years, KQED has acted on the changing social, political and human needs of the Bay Area with a vision energized by innovation and opportunity.

What are Campaign 21 contributions making possible?

  • Expanded team of journalists
  • Modern multi-disciplinary newsroom
  • New digital production space and additional edit suites
  • State-of-the-art technical infrastructure
  • New community convening spaces—featuring The Commons

Why is KQED renovating?
We’ve outgrown the space a modern media organization needs to serve today’s diverse audiences. A renovated facility will house our growing team of journalists, and invite our audiences to engage with reporters and each other.

Project Leadership
KQED’s transformation is being guided by its executive staff and a volunteer Board of leaders from across the Bay Area. External partners include architects EHDD, Cahill Construction and Oppenheim Lewis, project management.

When can I visit KQED’s new building?
Construction is expected to conclude in 2021, and we look forward to celebrating with you soon after.

What is the philanthropic goal; How much has KQED raised?
Campaign 21 is a $135 million dollar investment in KQED’s future. To date more than $100 million has been secured. Campaign gifts provide special philanthropic support over and above annual membership. We invite you to be part of this historic effort.

How will KQED recognize my gift?
KQED will recognize all Campaign 21 supporters—no matter the amount. For individuals making gifts of $250,000 or more, there are opportunities to name spaces in the building. To discuss your philanthropic vision, please connect with the Campaign team at campaign21@kqed.org or 415-553-8497.
