Are you familiar with the concept of “third spaces”? They’re an additional option outside of our typical first environment (home) and our second environment (school or work). These are places like cafes, libraries, even churches. Sometimes it can be challenging for teens to find a safe, free or low cost space for them to decompress, recharge their creativity and meet new folks. However, the Youth Art Exchange, a nonprofit organization that offers FREE year-round art to teens in San Francisco, has become that space for so many Bay Area teens.

Founded in 2000, YAX has led community arts education in San Francisco with more than 15,000 students, 150 faculty artists, and 100,000 audience members as part of their community for more than 20 years.

Enzo, this episode’s quirky host, whisks contestants Mariam and Jamareion on a journey through YAX’s colorful murals, an incredible music studio, and fashion design centers; all under the trusty guidance of YAX Advisory Board members, Nestor and David. See how this center encourages teens to express their creativity and growth in this inspiring episode of The Field Trip Game: A Ridiculous Adventure Game with Mediocre Prizes.
