In June, KQED launched its first YouTube series co-produced with youth for a youth audience. At the spin wheel, The Field Trip Game: A Ridiculous Adventure Game with Mediocre Prizes takes teenage contestants on rollicking adventures to mystery locations around San Francisco and the Bay Area, encouraging other young people to get out and explore their world. Whether visiting a no-kill animal shelter, a roller rink inside an old church, or an arcade full of hundred-year-old animatronics, the series—comprising both regular episodes and original shorts—offers a fun and irreverent look at places that make the Bay Area unique. Along the way, there will be spinning wheels, behind-the-scenes tours, games-within-games, scavenger hunts, quizzes, and, of course, mediocre prizes! The series represents an intergenerational collaboration between nine "creative collaborators" (CCs) aged 16 to 21 and a team of KQED producers. Under the guidance of KQED’s team, the CCs rapidly progressed and utilized their technical and creative skills through the fall, with production beginning in January. From producer to writer, to director, to host, to camera and sound, the CCs co-designed the series and played most of the key roles during pre-production and on-location filming, and offered editing feedback during the post-production phase. The first episode launched on Thursday, June 20th, Don’t miss KQED's first-ever by-youth, for-youth digital video series. The eight-episode first season, along with accompanying shorts, can be found on YouTube!
