Cephalopod Week: Movie Night

Date and Time
Friday, June 10, 2022 7:00 PM (PT)
Description

NPR’s Science Friday and KQED’s award-winning wildlife video series Deep Look team up for Cephalopod Week to celebrate everyone’s favorite intelligent marine invertebrates — from the cunning cuttlefish and nifty nautilus, to the superb squid and the outstanding octopus!

Join for an evening of talk, tentacles, and talent, featuring original short films from the Science Friday and Deep Look vaults, followed by conversations with cephalopod experts, interactive games, and other ceph-tastic fun. Dive deep with us in-person or plant your suckers at home—no matter where you are, now you can tune in to celebrate your favorite sea creatures!

Guests
  • Richard Ross, cephalopod husbandry expert, will invite us to his Secret Home Lab, where he has been raising and caring for octopuses (and coral, too!) for more than 10 years.
  • Danna Staaf, science writer and author of many cephalopod tomes, including Monarchs of the Sea: The Extraordinary 500-Million-Year History of Cephalopods and Squid Empire: The Rise and Fall of the Cephalopods.
  • Josh Cassidy, lead producer and cinematographer for Deep Look, who helps bring beautiful science stories to the screen.
