A Florida jury's recent acquittal of George Zimmerman in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin has triggered numerous demonstrations, of course, but it has also inspired some powerful artistic responses.
Here, singer Kim Nalley, known for her sophisticated blend of blues, jazz and soul, does more of a field holler, an original song that captures the many layers of emotional complexity in the Trayvon Martin story. I got chills watching it.
Nalley plays the Mendocino Music Festival Friday, and then she does four nights at Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola in New York as part of Jazz at Lincoln Center.
