A quarter-million vehicles pass through the MacArthur Maze on the east end of the Bay Bridge every day — and Caltrans’ recent plan to make upgrades has gotten pushback from residents and leaders in Oakland and Emeryville.
For those who commute through the Maze, it might seem like it’s been there forever. But there’s a lot of history in the land it was built on, starting with the Ohlone people, and African Americans, who settled there as the port and railroad produced well-paying jobs.
Filmmaker Serginho Roosblad’s new documentary, “The Maze,” explores that history, and he met up with KQED’s Brian Watt to talk about it.
