Alameda County's Santa Rita Jail has seen 35 inmate deaths since 2014, the fourth highest among county jails with 1,000 or more prisoners in California. Jail staff have also been accused of routinely mistreating inmates. Investigative journalist Scott Morris looked into several deaths at Santa Rita and allegations against deputies in a recent article for the East Bay Express called "The Most Dangerous Place in Alameda County."
