Newly named vice presidential candidate Tim Walz has visited San Francisco once — and already mastered the morning routine you’ve told yourself you’ll start every Monday.

Walz, 60, recently shared on the Ezra Klein Show that while visiting the city for the first time in July, he woke up, ran five miles through the Presidio to the Golden Gate Bridge, and got back to his hotel downtown all before taking some meetings and getting on with his day.

While it might be unfair to compare your workout routine to that of a 24-year National Guard veteran, it seems Walz had a similar reaction to the famed sights of the city as many do, passing the Palace of Fine Arts or looking out at the bay.

“I’m leaving, and I’m like, ‘That is the most beautiful city I’ve ever been in,’” Walz said.

The Minnesota governor, who’s already being dubbed the “Midwest Prince” by many on social media referencing popstar Chappell Roan, said he was awed by the West Coast during his first trip here.

“It was exotic to me,” Walz, who began his political career after working as a high school social science teacher, said in the interview. “I’ve seen San Francisco on TV hundreds of times and heard about it, and there I am driving around, and I’m like a kid again. I’m like, ‘America is so awesome.’”

Sure, the Bay Area has not been without its problems, Walz said, but he noted that “homelessness is an issue across the country.”

Clearly, the man who could become the next vice president of the United States is not buying into the “doom loop” narrative.

“San Francisco is just the greatest,” he said.
