It's pretty well-documented that we here at KQED Pop are unabashed cat people. Still, upon hearing that today is in fact National Dog Day -- a holiday that aims to "help galvanize the public to recognize the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year" -- we had no choice but to cruise over to the San Francisco SPCA's website and do some window shopping.
The result? We picked out some winners for ya. Here are 10 pups currently chilling at a local SPCA adoption center, just waiting for you to take them home.
Scout
2 years, 4 months
55 lbs, 2 oz.
Australian Cattle Dog
"Scout is a special guy who is on the go! He enjoys leaning on his humans for love and affection....He would prefer a home outside of the busy city where he can romp around in the fresh air."
Nancy
1 year, 4 months
68lbs, 5oz
Shepherd Mix
"Big Nancy wants nothing more than her own person to love and dote on. She is eager to hand out her love so we think she will have a new home soon. She is still young and needs lots of daily mental and physical exercise to keep her energy level in check."
Avery
2 years
46lbs, 5oz.
Beagle Hound
"Avery is a very sweet, youthful and social guy that will need plenty of exercise and affection. He will also benefit from some training and regular chances to mingle with other dogs his size."
