Current, the non-profit trade publication covering public media, has recognized Alex Gonzalez, KQED’s Senior Editor of Local News Features, as one of this year’s “Rising Stars in Public Media”.

Gonzalez is one of 35 early and mid-career public media employees who are ages 36 and under chosen by Current after being nominated by their colleagues “for their exceptional contributions to their workplaces, communities and public media at large.” Current launched its Rising Stars initiative last year “to celebrate younger employees who are making a difference in public media.”

Gonzalez is the lead editor for many of the local interviews and in-depth stories KQED produces and airs during NPR’s Morning Edition. He has helped lead the way in KQED’s production of high-quality, in-depth digital and broadcast reporting. Gonzalez is a key part of KQED’s efforts to amplify the diverse voices of the Bay Area and mentor the next generation of the region’s new journalists. Last year, his KQED colleague, Bianca Taylor was named one of Current’s Rising Stars of 2023.
