SAN FRANCISCO, CA— KQED is proud to present Roadtrip Nation’s newest documentary series, “Learning Reimagined.” Premiering on public television this April, it offers a fresh, compelling look at how education is being redefined by innovative changemakers across the country.

In a time when traditional education is being questioned more than ever, “Learning Reimagined” follows three people as they journey across the U.S. to meet inspiring education entrepreneurs and explore groundbreaking approaches to student-centered learning.

Aliyah, a North Carolina native, has a master’s degree in elementary education from North Carolina A&T. She resigned from teaching and has fully immersed herself in the homeschooling community. Now, she’s a homeschooling mother, wife, certified school garden educator, and entrepreneur with a business that focuses on helping homeschooling families find daily balance through garden education. She’s hoping to create a sustainable and lasting impact in her local area.

Billie—originally from Pittsburgh, PA—now resides in Asheville, NC, where they indulge in camping, gardening, and river adventures. They’re passionate about experiential and social-emotional learning, as well as creating a community of inclusivity and authenticity. Billie’s goal is to transform education by promoting a holistic, student-centered approach that emphasizes connection to nature and each other. They hope to explore nonprofit educational strategies that lead all students towards self-actualization.

Maximiliano is a lifelong Long Beach resident with a passion for education and community support. He’s dedicated to helping underrepresented students successfully transition from high school to college. His dedication to his community is fueled by his experiences as a first-generation Latino student and his mother’s hard work, inspiring him to support students in their educational journeys. He’s hoping to investigate the preparedness of Latinx students in Southern California for college and explore ways to better support them.

These three young people know they have the potential to radically revamp education as we know it. As they meet others who’ve done the same, they realize anything is possible with the right set of skills and an optimistic sense of ambition.

Throughout the series, viewers will get a glimpse of what new models of education look like in practice—and what we can gain from letting education be a more adaptable, permeable space. “Learning Reimagined” shows how school can be a place where new ideas, programs, and technologies support students’ development as they build skills and relationships that will support their future success.

Roadtrip Nation is made available to public television by KQED Presents, the national distribution service of San Francisco-based public media station KQED. “Learning Reimagined” will air nationally on public television starting in April 2025 (check local listings).
