Our Future is Today
I am thrilled to share KQED Education’s latest annual report with you! It reviews just some of our growth and impact during the 2023-2024 school year. This report lands as we continue to see the need for youth (and adults!) to be able to navigate a media landscape that requires us to decipher and analyze our information sources as well as participate in a thoughtful exchange of ideas as we navigate worldwide events, a dynamic election season and other issues close to home.
“We were able to spark a conversation about an issue and topic that’s really important to us.”
– Nico, Youth Advisory Board member
In this report you’ll be able to learn about specific successes we’ve experienced to advance our North Star to elevate diverse youth voices. For example, I had a chance this year to interview some members of KQED’s Youth Advisory Board to learn more about their experiences and any impact those are having on how they see themselves and their future. You can read some of that interview on pg. 6 and watch some of the video. You’ll learn how we’re helping students and educators navigate this election season with media literacy skills on pg. 5. Check out the new show we piloted with youth co-producers for a youth audience on pg. 9 — The Field Trip Game — and head over to YouTube to watch all the episodes and Shorts! You’ll also learn about some of the exciting partnerships we’ve enjoyed this year on pg. 10 (Berkeley High School and the Boys & Girls Club) and pg. 11-12 (new graduate units for educators and a new Administrative Advisory Board!).
Read the report for yourself and let me know what resonates with you! I’m at mparker@kqed.org. You can also reach out to our Partnership Director Almetria Vaba or our Grants Manager Danielle Horcabas if you want to learn about working with us.
Many thanks for your continued support and dedication to elevating youth voices alongside us.
