After criticizing federal mismanagement of last year’s North Bay fire cleanup, California will be in charge of debris removal for the Camp Fire.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers faced extensive criticism for how it managed the $1.3 billion cleanup following the North Bay fires of 2017.

Property owners complained of damage caused by debris removal contractors while the state had to pay to repair hundreds of lots that were over-excavated.
