Immigration advocates say U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is rushing to lock in long-term contracts with for-profit prison companies before a state law banning for-profit immigration facilities goes into effect Jan. 1.
From the look of things, ICE took care of its last-minute contract shopping with plenty of time to spare. Multiple contracts worth billions of dollars were awarded Friday with terms ranging from five to fifteen years.
Apparently those immigration advocates were right.
