Three passengers were injured after smoke began to fill the cabin of a flight leaving San Francisco International Airport on Friday, officials said.

The American Airlines flight to Miami was taxiing when flight attendants discovered smoke in the cabin, a spokesperson for the San Francisco Fire Department said. The aircraft was evacuated via emergency slide and jet bridge, and city fire officials responded to “extinguish the smoke source.”

The smoke came from a laptop within a customer’s bag, an American Airlines spokesperson said in a statement.

“The bag was quickly removed by our crew members and all customers exited the aircraft,” the statement said. “We thank our crew members for their professionalism and apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.”

Three passengers suffered injuries, and one required medical transport, the Fire Department spokesperson said. The exact nature of their injuries was not immediately clear.

The remaining passengers were transported back to the terminal.
