Two suspects have been arrested after two people and a dog were shot in the Tenderloin on Sunday afternoon, according to San Francisco police.

Around 4 p.m., officers located the victims with apparent gunshot wounds at the 100 block of Willow Street. The two people were transferred to a hospital with injuries that were not expected to be life-threatening after officers rendered aid, according to San Francisco Police Department spokesperson Paulina Henderson.

A suspect was seen fleeing in a vehicle heading south on Polk Street, and police detained a female driver operating a vehicle matching its description in the area, Henderson said.

A man was also detained in the area, and officers developed probable cause to arrest both suspects. They were booked into San Francisco County Jail, according to Henderson.

The shooting comes as city officials tout lower crime levels this year, including a 27% decrease in the citywide number of gun violence victims through August, according to the preliminary crime trends report from Wednesday’s police commission meeting.

The Tenderloin, however, is one of only two Police Department districts where the number of shootings at that point was higher than in 2023, with 20 compared to 19. There have also been two shootings in SFPD’s Park district, compared with zero last year.

The charges against the suspects, who were not identified, are pending, and police said the investigation is ongoing. The Police Department did not have any update on the status of the dog as of midday Monday.
