A man was killed and a woman was seriously injured in a shooting Thursday morning at a home in San Francisco’s Bernal Heights neighborhood, police said.

A toddler was also hospitalized with a gunshot wound that was not expected to be life-threatening. Police believe it is connected to the fatal shooting, although details were not clear.

Around 8:12 a.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting at a home on the 1000 block of Tompkins Avenue, said Eve Laokwansathitaya, a spokesperson for the San Francisco Police Department.

“Just due to the nature of details that were being shared by the caller to the 911 dispatcher, law enforcement was sent into the scene before rescuers,” said San Francisco Fire Department Rescue Capt. Justin Schorr.

Police found a woman suffering from gunshot wounds and rendered first aid until paramedics took over and transported her to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, Laokwansathitaya said.

Officers also found a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was declared dead at the scene.

While at the home on Tompkins Avenue, SFPD officers were notified that the Daly City Police Department had responded to a toddler suffering from a gunshot wound that was possibly related, Laokwansathitaya said. She added that the toddler was at a different location but did not say where that was.

Daly City officers rendered first aid and the toddler was also taken to a hospital, Laokwansathitaya said. The Daly City Police Department did not respond to a request for comment.

Police did not identify any of the people who were shot or specify the relationship between them.

Anthony Thomas, standing outside the scene, told reporters that his 24-year-old son had died in the shooting, and that it appeared he had shot the woman and their child before shooting himself, which the SFPD did not confirm. Thomas also said his son had been bullied.

Police believe the shooting was an isolated incident, and officers are still at the scene investigating. Anyone with information is asked to contact SFPD at 415-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 and begin the message with SFPD.
